Leonardo da Vinci  – Vitruvian Man, 1487

The noblest pleasure is the joy of understanding.

Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt,
and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen.

Principles for the Development of a Complete Mind:
Study the science of art.
Study the art of science.
Develop your senses – especially learn how to see.
Realize that everything connects to everything else.

One has no right to love or hate anything if one
has not acquired a thorough knowledge of its nature.
Great love springs from great knowledge of the beloved object,
and if you know it but little
you will be able to love it only a little or not at all.

Once you have tasted flight,
you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward,
for there you have been,
and there you will always long to return.

An average human
looks without seeing, listens without hearing,
touches without feeling, eats without tasting,
moves without physical awareness,
inhales without awareness of odour or fragrance,
and talks without thinking.

Science

Even if there is only one possible unified theory,
it is just a set of rules and equations.
What is it that breathes fire into the equations and
makes a universe for them to describe?
The usual approach of science of constructing a mathematical model
cannot answer the questions
of why there should be a universe for the model to describe.
Why does the universe go to all the bother of existing?
Stephen Hawking

Science is not only compatible with spirituality;
it is a profound source of spirituality.
When we recognize our place in an immensity of light‐years
and in the passage of ages,
when we grasp the intricacy, beauty, and subtlety of life,
then that soaring feeling, that sense of elation and humility combined,
is surely spiritual.
So are our emotions in the presence of great art or music or literature,
or acts of exemplary selfless courage
such as those M. Gandhi or Martin Luther King, Jr.
The notion that science and spirituality are somehow mutually exclusive
does a disservice to both.
Carl Sagan

Science investigates; religion interprets.
Science gives man knowledge, which is power;
religion gives man wisdom, which is control.
Science deals mainly with facts;
religion deals mainly with values.
The two are not rivals.
Martin Luther King Jr.

It would be possible to describe everything scientifically,
but it would make no sense;
it would be without meaning,
as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure.
Albert Einstein

The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster
than society gathers wisdom.
Isaac Asimov

The most exciting phrase to hear in science,
the one that heralds the most discoveries,
is not “Eureka!” (I found it!) but ‘That’s funny…’
Isaac Asimov
